Table of Contents

1. What Data We Collect

We may collect the following types of data:

Personal Data

  • Name and email address (e.g., when you enrol in a Course, book a Lesson, or sign up for our newsletter).
  • Payment information (processed by PayPal or Teachable).
  • Details related to your learning preferences (e.g., native language, location, and study goals).

Non-Personal Data

  • IP addresses and device information.
  • Website usage data (e.g., page visits, session times) through cookies and analytics.

Sensitive Data

We do not collect any special categories of data (e.g., health data, information about children). If we ever require sensitive data (e.g., for accessibility or language needs), we will request explicit consent at the time of collection.

2. How We Collect Data

We collect data in the following ways:

  • Directly from you: Through forms on our website, Teachable, Acuity, or emails you send us.
  • Automatically: Through essential cookies that enable website functionality.
  • Through third-party platforms: When you enrol in Courses (Teachable), make payments (PayPal), or sign up for our email list (MailerLite).

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data for the following purposes:

  1. To provide and operate our services (Courses, Lessons, newsletters).
  2. To communicate with you about your enrolments, bookings, and updates.
  3. To improve our website and services.
  4. To comply with legal obligations (e.g., financial record-keeping).

4. Who We Share Your Data With

We may share your data with trusted third-party services, including:

  • Teachable: For managing Courses and processing Course payments.
  • Zoom: For hosting one-to-one Lessons and live Q&A sessions. If recordings are made, they are stored locally on our hard drive, not Zoom’s cloud.
  • MailerLite: For email marketing (double opt-in and unsubscribe options provided).
  • PayPal: For processing payments for Lessons.
  • Dropbox: For secure backup storage of lesson logs and recordings.

We never sell or rent your data to third parties.

5. Data Retention

We retain data for as long as necessary to provide our services or comply with legal obligations:

  • Customer profiles (e.g., lesson logs): Retained indefinitely for operational reasons unless deletion is requested. Inactive profiles are periodically reviewed, and personal data unrelated to ongoing services may be anonymised or deleted where appropriate.
  • Q&A recordings: Retained for 3 months, after which they are deleted unless permission is obtained for reuse.
  • Financial transactions: Retained for a minimum of 5 years in compliance with legal and tax obligations.
  • Incidental Audio Contributions and Repurposed Content:
During live Q&A sessions or lessons, incidental audio contributions, such as generic affirmations (e.g., “mm-hmmm,” “ok,” or “aha”), may be captured. These sounds are non-identifiable and do not reveal personal data. As such, they may be retained as part of course content when removal would disrupt the flow of the material.

Occasionally, non-identifiable segments of audio or video content may also be repurposed for external use, such as social media, website testimonials, or other promotional materials. Any content that includes identifiable personal data (e.g., video images, names, or unique speech contributions) will only be used with prior explicit consent, obtained via a separate release form.

6. Your Rights

Under GDPR, you have the following rights:

  1. Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  2. Correction: Request corrections to inaccurate or incomplete data.
  3. Deletion: Request that we delete your data (“right to be forgotten”).
  4. Portability: Receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used format to transfer it to another service provider if required. This applies only to personal data you have provided to us directly.
  5. Objection: Object to the processing of your data for specific purposes (e.g., marketing).

To exercise any of these rights, please email anneli@swedishmadeeasy.com.

7. Cookies and Tracking

We do not use any cookies on our website other than those essential for the website’s basic functionality. This includes no third-party tracking or advertising cookies. Essential cookies:

  • Enable the website to load properly.
  • Allow users to navigate through the site securely.

These essential cookies do not collect any personal data or track your browsing behaviour. If we decide to use additional cookies in the future (e.g., for analytics or marketing purposes), we will update this Privacy Policy and notify you accordingly. You will also have the option to opt in to these cookies at that time.

8. Security of Your Data

We take the security of your personal data seriously and implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect it from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. These measures include:

  • Encryption for sensitive data.
  • Secure servers and firewalls.
  • Limited access to data by authorised personnel only.
  • Regular backups of lesson logs and recordings stored locally and on secure cloud platforms (e.g., Dropbox).
  • Regular reviews and updates to our security practices to address evolving threats.

While we strive to protect your personal data, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we continuously evaluate and improve our measures.

9. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any significant changes will be communicated via email or a notice on our website.
